Flight to Zurich!
The last week has been completely crazy, from wandering around Zurich to changing hotels twice, looking for apartment, and exploring Budapest, I haven’t had a whole lot of downtime to write posts. Tonight that changes! I’m back in the dorm (dorm/hotel/residence center/same thing) early, and I’m determined to publish a post tonight…be warned I really like flying and traveling so expect tons of pictures of airports and planes and stuff. If you also like airports and planes and stuff, check out Airliners.net, they have lots of pictures and reviews of different airlines (unfortunately mostly business and first class, but the occasional coach review). I’ll try and do a short post with lots of pictures everyday this week until I’m up to date.
So last Sunday, after spending a relaxing morning and afternoon with my mom, grandmother, uncle, and cousins, (It’s amazing the free time you have when you’re finished backing the night before!) my mom and I headed off to Logan Airport. I checked in, and said bye to my mom before heading through security. I made sure to promise her that, unlike my semester abroad in Australia, I’d actually call when I arrived and keep in touch. (For the record: so far I’ve kept this promise.)
After the long security line I go to do something I’ve had a chance to do before, go to one of the International Lounges in Logan Airport’s Terminal E. The airline I was flying, Swiss, doesn’t have a lounge, but as a Star Alliance Gold member I could use Lufthansa’s. It was really cool, but really crowded. Free food, free drinks, and free internet, it had almost everything! The only thing I missed was the view. I like to watch the planes come and go, so I left the lounge early to see my plane arrive. Also to try and change my seat…
Usually, I like a window seat, and fortunately I was able to get one. The only problem was that the bulkhead was directly behind me (along with the toilets), so I couldn’t recline, and sleeping was almost impossible. Fortunately, they had some some good movies that I had missed when they were in theaters, like the Hunger Games. Not to mention the dinner was surprisingly good, and they gave us breakfast…and chocolate!
Immigration into Switzerland and the European Union was easy, there was a line, but they quickly opened up all the immigration lines and I was officially in Zurich! A short tram ride and I was in the middle of downtown.
